Professional Development Courses for Teachers in 2010-2011
Courses free of charge – all costs are covered by British Council Romania
Preparing students for Cambridge
These are 6-hour courses dedicated to teachers who wish to train their students to successfully get their Cambridge ESOL diploma in the following exams:
· YLE
· KET
· PET
· FCE
· CAE
· CPE
· BEC
· ICFE
· ILEC
· IELTS
· TKT
The courses are structured in four modules focusing on the methodology of teaching the four skills, with a view to exams requirements.
They aim to:
· raise the participants' awareness of the format of the four papers;
· discuss techniques that will improve the students' performance;
· discuss assessment of written papers and of oral performance;
· provide activities and teaching tips for teachers to use with examinations classes;
· encourage the participants to share their own ideas about preparing students for exams.
For the following courses participants are required to pay a fee of aprox. 125 RON for a 8 hour course (fees are negotiable or can be paid in instalments)
1. Creative writing
given by Cristiana Faur
Writing tends to be the bugbear for both students and teachers. Generating ideas is obviously a crucial part in the writing process. Let yourself guided into this process. It can be fun and very rewarding.
2. Events management
Given by Reka Vadasz
The ten-hour course Events Management addresses primary and secondary-school teachers as well as other people who are in charge of organising different types of events: school festivals, meetings, conferences, workshops and many other activities specific to education.
The course is structured in three modules:
1. stages in organising a public event
2. identifying and forming the teams
3. describing different types of events
Highly interactive, the course is based on a booklet to be used as a resource by the participants.
Part of the course is an evaluation task with a written and an oral component.
3. Teaching ENGLISH through songs
Given by Monica Stoica
A young teacher and trainer in love with teaching will share with you practical activities she used successfully with her students. You will have the chance to learn how to use poems, games, songs in a variety of ways and for a variety of teaching purposes.
4. Getting Ready for Teachers’ Exams
given by Monica Andrei , Bianca Popa and Monica Ralea
This 30-hour course. It is a must for every teacher preparing to sit a promotion exam for teachers (definitivat, gradul 2). The 10 sessions deal with essential aspects of ELT (teaching vocabulary and grammar, teaching the four skills, teaching culture, lesson planning, classroom management) that are tackled in an interactive way allowing the teachers to experience some concrete activities and reflect upon them in order to internalise the underlying principles. Lots of teaching materials suitable for a range of levels are provided. The course is also a firm path towards the new Cambridge
5. Mentoring
given by Doina Fleanta, Elena Gardescu . Ada
Mentoring is a skill. Although being a good teacher is a condition for becoming a good mentor, we cannot assume that a good teacher will automatically be a good mentor. Mentoring skills need to be explored, discussed and most of all practised and reflected on. This is the very aim of this 48-hour course.
6. NLP for teachers
given by Monica Ralea
This is an 8-hour course dedicated to teachers (and not only) interested in personal development (setting up and achieving goals, accessing personal resources, making the best out of oneself), coaching as well as developing their interpersonal communication skills. The course covers topics such as Maps and Filters, State and Anchors, The Metamodel, Working with Presuppositions and Metaphors etc. The teachers will get involved in practical activities easy to transfer to the classroom environment.
7. Teaching young learners
given by Elena Gardescu
A 9-hour course for those who teach English as a foreign language in primary school (1st and 2nd grade).
In a highly interactive manner it deals with the psychology and behaviour of very young learners as well as ELT methodology issues. It also aims to develop the teacher's own creativity in using and inventing resources, in teaching poems, action rhymes, dialogues, songs, stories, games.
8. Steps To Success – 300 RON

Vă invită la seminarul de formare profesională “Oxford Day”, dedicat tuturor profesorilor de limba engleză, susținut de Tim Ward, formator profesionist și autor din partea Oxford University Press. Seminarul este adresat profesorilor care predau în ciclul primar, gimnazial și liceal, interesați de perfecționare profesională și de noutățile Oxford University Press.
Evenimentul va avea loc pe data de 14 aprilie 2011, în sediul ISJ Vrancea, iar seminarul va fi alcătuit din patru workshop-uri de câte o oră, adresate fiecărui ciclu de invățământ:
- Workshop 1 (pentru ciclul primar): “Happy lessons, happy learning: ways to help Young Learners begin to speak”
- Workshop 2 (pentru ciclul gimnazial): “Innovative ways of teaching secondary through project work”
- Workshop 3 (pentru ciclul gimnazial și liceal): “Teenagers: what helps is...”
- Workshop 4 (pentru ciclul liceal): “What makes us curious? Ways of ensuring success for older school learners”
Seminarul se va desfășura de la ora 13 la data și locul menționate mai sus, este gratuit, iar participanții vor beneficia de certificate de participare semnate de Oxford University Press și ISJ Vrancea și de materiale promoționale oferite gratuit.

ENGLISH FOR EXAMS
Regulamentul concursului de limba engleză “ENGLISH FOR EXAMS”
Ediţia a IV-a – aprilie, 2011
Concursul se adresează elevilor de gimnaziu şi liceu şi va conţine subiecte diferenţiate pe patru niveluri: clasele V-VI (nivel PET), clasele VII-VIII (nivel FCE), clasele IX-X (nivel CAE) si clasele XI-XII (nivel CPE).
GIMNAZIU
1. Subiectele vor conţine itemi de evaluare obiectivi de două tipuri:
Use of English si Listening-baraj.
2. Prima etapă (Use of English) va dura 1 oră iar barajul (proba de Listening) – 30 minute.
3. La secţiunea Use of English fiecare răspuns corect va fi evaluat cu 1 (un) punct (punctaj final raportat la 100). Punctajul maxim cu care poate fi evaluată o teză este de 100, iar punctajul minim 0. Candidaţii care vor obţine minim 80 de puncte vor intra în proba de baraj.
4. La Listening fiecare răspuns corect va fi evaluat cu câte 1 (un) punct (punctaj final raportat la 100). Media finală va fi media aritmetică dintre cele două probe.
5. La ambele etape corectarea se va face pe loc, imediat dupa predarea lucrărilor, de către profesorul supraveghetor în prezenţa candidatului şi a unui martor dintre ceilalţi candidaţi.
6. Nu se admit contestatii.
7. Dacă doi sau mai mulţi elevi au acelaşi punctaj, atunci mai bine clasat este elevul cu punctajul mai mare la Listening. În caz de punctaj identic, diferenţierea se va face în funcţie de punctajul obţinut la itemi de dificultate sporită (marcaţi cu asterisc pe foaia de subiect).
8. Pentru fiecare clasă se vor acorda premii în bani şi diplome.
9. Pentru fiecare clasă se poate acorda câte un singur premiu I, un premiu II şi un premiu III şi câte 3 menţiuni. De asemenea, se va mai acorda câte un premiu special (diploma) elevului care va obţine cel mai mare punctaj la nivelul şcolii/liceului său, dacă nu a beneficiat de niciunul din premiile menţionate anterior.
10. Concursul va avea loc pe data de 10 aprilie, ora 10, la Colegiul Naţional “Vasile Alecsandri”, Galaţi.
LICEU
1. Subiectele vor conţine itemi de evaluare obiectivi de trei tipuri:
· Listening (părţile I şi III din CAE, respectiv CPE),
· Reading (părtile II şi III din CAE, respectiv III si IV din CPE) şi
· Use of English (itemi de alegere multiplă, în propoziţii).
2. Concursul va dura în total 2 ore, durata fiecărei secţiuni fiind următoarea: Listening – 30 minute, Reading – 40 minute, Use of English – 50 minute.
3. Punctajul maxim cu care poate fi evaluată o teză este de 150, iar punctajul minim 0.
La secţiunile Listening şi Reading, fiecare răspuns corect va fi evaluat cu 2 (două) puncte iar la Use of English cu câte 1 (un) punct.
4. Corectarea se va face pe loc, imediat dupa predarea lucrărilor, de către profesorul supraveghetor în prezenţa candidatului şi a unui martor dintre ceilalţi candidaţi.
